Plot Summary:
The series is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Mao Ni and picks up from the previous season. Fan Xian (played by Zhang Ruoyun) leads a delegation back, during which the Second Prince threatens Fan Xian with the safety of Fei Jie, Fan Si Che, and the orphan of the Teng family, forcing him to submit and become his vassal, thus igniting the conflict between them. The enigma of the Baoyue Tower that Fan Xian faces, as well as the subsequent crisis of the imperial examination, are all traps that the Second Prince has meticulously set for Fan Xian.
Fan Xian and Lin Wan’er have their wedding as they wished, and immediately after, Fan Xian takes over the Inner Treasury, only to find it in heavy debt. Refusing the help of the head of Qingyutang, Fan Xian decides to resolve the crisis of the Inner Treasury with his own strength. He invites the city’s merchants to gather at Cangshan to raise funds by selling “treasury bonds,” raising over twenty million taels of silver and solving the problem of the depleted treasury.
At the Xuan Kong Temple, the Emperor of Qing is subjected to three assassination attempts, and Fan Xian, while saving him, ends up losing all his martial arts skills. Surrounded by crises and under immense pressure, Fan Xian has no choice but to go to the south of the Yangtze River with his weakened body to challenge the formidable forces and the established rules of the game, in an effort to reclaim the Inner Treasury completely.
