China’s March new energy vehicle sales ranking: BYD leads with sales exceeding 300,000 units.

Today, the sales ranking of new energy vehicles for March 2024 was released. The data shows that the wholesale sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles nationwide reached 820,000 units, an increase of 33% year-on-year and 84% month-on-month.

The China Passenger Car Association pointed out that the market advantage of leading new energy companies has been continuously expanding recently, and market differentiation has become increasingly evident.

According to statistics from the China Automobile Dealers Association’s Automotive Market Research Branch, in February 2024, there were 9 manufacturers with new energy sales of over 100,000 units in the national passenger car market, accounting for 76.5% of the total sales of new energy passenger vehicles.

In the March wholesale sales ranking of new energy passenger vehicle manufacturers, BYD ranked first with sales of 301,600 units, followed closely by Tesla with 89,100 units, and Changan Automobile ranked third with 52,900 units.

All models of BYD and Tesla are new energy vehicles, thus occupying the main share of the new energy list.

In comparison, brands such as Changan and Geely, in addition to new energy models, also have traditional fuel models for sale, reflecting the differences in the transformation process and popularity of traditional car companies in the new energy vehicle market.

At the same time, since traditional car companies are generally involved in the hybrid and pure electric vehicle market and have multiple brands participating, some traditional car companies have surpassed new energy brands in terms of sales data.

In the rankings, companies that rank at the top usually have the support of star models and some adopt a “broad net” strategy.
