The world’s fastest high-speed train speed, previously held by China, is about to be surpassed. Breaking this record is the CR450, also from China, boasting 100% independent intellectual property.
According to CCTV News, the CR450 will officially debut this year, increasing its operating speed from 350 kilometers per hour to 400 kilometers per hour.

Notably, utilizing new materials such as permanent magnets, magnesium alloys, and carbon fiber, the CR450 has reduced its “weight” from over 500 tons to over 460 tons, achieving a “slimmer” profile.
Simultaneously, the traction power has increased from 9600 kilowatts to 11000 kilowatts, becoming lighter in weight yet stronger in performance.
In January this year, China National Railway Group revealed it would complete the manufacturing of the CR450 prototype this year and conduct type tests, marking a breakthrough in China’s CR450 technology innovation project initiated three years ago.
Currently, the Fuxing Hao (复兴号) train has three speed levels: CR400/300/200.
The numbers represent maximum speeds, with continuous speeds corresponding to 350, 250, and 160 kilometers per hour, suitable for high-speed rail (HSR), fast rail (Fuxing), and intercity rail (metro).
The CR450 signifies its fastest stable speed can reach 450 kilometers per hour, with a sustained speed of 400 kilometers per hour.
The Beijing to Shanghai route is one of China’s busiest railway lines, currently taking over 4 hours for the fastest journey. In the future, the CR450 is expected to significantly reduce travel time once again.
