According to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, during the 3-day Qingming holiday in 2024, domestic tourism in China saw 1.19 billion trips, an 11.5% increase compared to the same period in 2019. Domestic tourists spent 53.95 billion yuan during the holiday, a 12.7% increase from 2019.
Ctrip data shows that during the holiday, tourists in cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou preferred nearby destinations. The top 10 popular domestic destinations for short trips included Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin, Beijing, Jinan, Yangzhou, and Wuhan.
Tongcheng Travel data indicates that Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Nanjing were the top domestic travel destinations during the Qingming holiday. “Touring the Jiangnan region” became a popular choice for travelers during this period.
Qunar data reveals that the top 10 cities for scenic spot visits during the Qingming holiday were Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xi’an, Suzhou, Chengdu, Yangzhou, Wuhan, Chongqing, and Luoyang. Mountain climbing, enjoying spring in the Jiangnan region, and visiting ancient cities were the main tourism activities during this year’s Qingming holiday.
In terms of inbound travel, the most popular destinations for flight bookings were Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou. Starting from the second half of 2023, popular outbound destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore have successively implemented visa-free policies for Chinese tourists. This has contributed positively to the rapid development of cross-border tourism.
Among college students, the travel market size accounted for over 20% during this Qingming holiday. Notably, the 18-25 age group showed significant activity during this period, preferring budget flights over overnight hard-seat train rides compared to previous years.
Places like Hubei Provincial Museum, Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Wansui Mountain in Kaifeng, Damingxian Wuxia City, Baotu Spring Park in Jinan, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden in Kaifeng, Red Mountain Forest Zoo in Nanjing, Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Wuyuan Huangling, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Hanshan Temple in Suzhou, Emei Mountain in Leshan, Slender West Lake in Yangzhou, Huangshan Scenic Area, Leshan Giant Buddha, and Terracotta Army in Xi’an saw ticket sales increase more than 6 times compared to last year. Ticket sales for Hubei Provincial Museum, Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Wansui Mountain in Kaifeng, and Damingxian Wuxia City increased by over 23 times.
