It is reported that the Huawei Developer Conference 2024 (HDC 2024) will be held from June 21 to 23 in Songshan Lake, Dongguan.
Among them, the most anticipated HarmonyOS NEXT will officially start beta testing at the conference, and HarmonyOS native applications will be fully showcased.
In the fourth quarter of this year, the commercial version of HarmonyOS NEXT for consumers will be released. It is reported that HarmonyOS will achieve the development of more than 5,000 native applications by the end of the year, ultimately reaching more than 500,000 native applications.
The so-called HarmonyOS NEXT, commonly referred to as the “pure HarmonyOS,” is fully self-developed at its base, removing the traditional Linux kernel and AOSP Android open source code project code, and adopting the self-developed Harmony kernel, bidding farewell to the era of the Linux kernel, and only supporting HarmonyOS native applications.
Previously, it was reported that the emergence of pure HarmonyOS could further enhance the performance of devices equipped with the new Kirin chip. The performance of devices with Kirin 9000S and 9010 chips will be released after upgrading to HarmonyOS NEXT, and the smoothness will be further improved.
According to the latest data released by the research institution Counterpoint Research, in the first quarter of 2024, the share of HarmonyOS increased from 8% in the first quarter of last year to 17%, while the share of iOS decreased from 20% to 16%.
This means that Huawei’s HarmonyOS has surpassed Apple’s iOS in market share in China, becoming the second largest operating system in China.
